What is an undermounted dishwasher

A built-in dishwasher is placed under the kitchen worktop. As this type of dishwasher does not require a front panel, you will be facing the dishwasher's own door. The control panel for an undercounter dishwasher is at the front.

What are undermount dishwashers?

A undermount dishwasher sits under your kitchen worktop, but unlike a fully integrated dishwasher you can still see it from the outside. There is no front panel on the outside, so it doesn’t completely blend in with the design of your kitchen.

The advantage is that the control panel, like most free-standing dishwashers, is on the outside. This means you don’t have to open the dishwasher to turn it on or change the wash programme.

In terms of visual appeal, this is not something everyone likes. Undermounted dishwashers also lack side panels, which means they will be in plain view if placed at the end of your kitchen block.

The width of an undermounted dishwasher is always 60cm, and adjustable feet allow you to play with the height. For the best undercounter dishwashers, you have come to the right place. We have listed the most economical, the cheapest and the best-rated dishwashers for you out of all the different types.

A built-in dishwasher vs. a freestanding dishwasher

The advantage of a built-in dishwasher over a freestanding one is that the former is placed under the counter, which means it is less in the way.

A freestanding dishwasher is placed opposite or next to the kitchen worktop, which means that the appliance does not always have a function.

A built-in dishwasher is also placed under your worktop to save space in the rest of the kitchen. Freestanding dishwashers, on the other hand, are a good alternative if you have a lot of space and don’t want to sacrifice a kitchen cabinet.

A semi built-in dishwasher also tends to be more expensive than a freestanding dishwasher. In some cases, it can cost hundreds of dollars. The dishwasher is also often more expensive than a freestanding dishwasher, so in some cases the difference can be hundreds of euros.

Always compare the different dishwashers before making a purchase. Unlike a undercounter dishwasher, only the control panel is visible, the rest of the dishwasher is hidden behind a front panel.

Construction dishwashers can also have the control panel on the inside of the door, in which case they are called fully integrated dishwashers.

There are undercounter dishwashers with the control panel on the inside, but these are considerably fewer. You may want to look for one of these semi built-in dishwashers if you don’t want to use your own front panel, but also don’t want to look up at the control panel. The front of the dishwasher is then just completely plain, sometimes with just the branding on it.

You can choose to fit a decorative frame as well, so that the dishwasher’s adjustable feet are no longer visible.
