Best condenser dryer for small budget

The biggest advantage of the condensing dryer is that this type of dryer is generally less expensive to buy than the alternative, the heat pump dryer. On the other hand, a condenser dryer is a lot less economical. This means that the energy costs are often cheaper with a heat pump dryer. Depending on how often you use your dryer, that is of course a consideration that you must make yourself.
Despite condenser dryers being cheaper, a tumble dryer is not a simple purchase. That’s why you’ll find a top 3 of the best condenser dryers at friendly prices below. In making this selection, we have paid particular attention to the price-quality ratio, so you can be sure that you get a good dryer in the house that does not cost too much.

Buying a clothes dryer; what to look out for

When buying a clothes dryer, there are several specifications that you should look out for to make sure that it fits the needs of you and your household. As tumble dryers have an average lifespan of 12 years, we can imagine that you may no longer know exactly what you need to take into account. In the tips below, you’ll find out exactly what to look out for when buying a dryer – but, first of all, we’ll take a closer look at the different types of tumble dryer.

Compare different types of dryers

When it comes to clothes dryers, you have the choice between an air extraction dryer, a condenser dryer and a heat pump dryer. The air-flow dryer is becoming less popular by the day because they have a very high energy consumption. Heat pump dryers work this the opposite; they dry very energy efficiently and are the most sold today. The condenser dryer is therefore in between.

Moisture removal

Another big difference between the different dryers is that the extractor dryer leads the moist air outside while drying by means of a hose through a window or a hole in the wall. Condensing dryers and heat pump dryers have 2 ways to get rid of the moisture; either through a reservoir (also known as a condensate pan) or while drying through a hose to the water outlet. If you have a water outlet in the room where your dryer is located, we recommend this option. This way you do not have to worry about the moisture in your dryer. If you do not have access to a water drain in your laundry room, you should consider emptying the tank into a sink after running drying programs.

Filling weight

The fill weight is one of the most important features of a clothes dryer. It determines how many kilograms of laundry will fit into the drum per drying cycle. We recommend that you buy a dryer with at least as much fill weight as your washing machine. This ensures that all your wet laundry fits into the drum of your dryer. Are you buying a new dryer and washing machine? Then use the overview below as an indication:

  1. A 6 or 7 kg dryer is suitable for a household of 1 or 2 people.
  2. A household of 3 or 4 people needs a dryer with 8 kg fill weight.
  3. A household of 5 or more people needs a dryer with 9 kg or more of filling power.

Energy class

If you want to dry in an energy-efficient way, it is best to choose a heat pump dryer with energy class A+++. Unfortunately, these dryers are more expensive to buy. A condenser dryer with energy class B is the least economical, but there are also condenser dryers with energy label A+++. The energy consumption of these dryers is so low that, compared to a condenser dryer with energy class B, you can save 888 euros in energy costs over 10 years.

Ease of use

Just like your washing machine, the modern dryer uses several options and features to make drying as quick and easy as possible. Convenience options include a self-cleaning condenser, delayed start and control via an app. Do you think you will benefit from this? Then choose a dryer that features these options.

Drying programs

Just as your washing machine has different wash programs, condenser dryers also offer several programs for different types of laundry. For example, there are special drying programs for wool, shirts, silk, baby clothes and towels. These programs ensure that your laundry dries perfectly and your clothes last longer. Almost all modern dryers also have an eco-program, to further reduce energy consumption during the drying process.

Build quality

The build quality of a dryer says something about its sturdiness and expected lifespan. In terms of build quality, all dryers are divided into basic, medium and premium classes. If the build quality is not mentioned with a dryer, the brand and price can also be an indication of the build quality. According to the Consumers’ Association, these are the best brands for clothes dryers: Miele, Bosch, Siemens, AEG and Samsung. Of these brands, AEG, Bosch and Siemens have condenser dryers in their range. These brands are generally more expensive, and therefore score less well in the category “price-quality ratio” according to research by the Consumers’ Association. Brands that do score well in this category are Beko, Indesit and Zanussi. Zanussi also produces condenser dryers.

Despite Siemens falling under the ‘more expensive brands’, the Siemens WT43N202NL was awarded as the ‘best buy’ for a condenser dryer according to the Consumers’ Association, because it dries well and has quickly dried your clothes.
