Which built-in dishwasher do I need?

Are you looking for a new built-in dishwasher because your current one needs replacing? Then make sure your dishwasher fits in with the setting of your kitchen. In addition to free-standing dishwashers, you have a choice of three different built-in models:

Fully integrated dishwasher

If you want your built-in dishwasher to blend in with the design of your kitchen, a fully integrated dishwasher is the best option. The control panel on a fully integrated model is on the inside, so you won’t see it. When the door is closed you won’t see that there is a dishwasher because the entire exterior has the same front panel as the rest of the kitchen cabinets.

Semi-integrated dishwasher

The semi-integrated dishwasher has the front panel on the outside. This allows you to see how long it will take or the temperature of the water even during the wash cycle. The height of the front panel on a semiintegrated model is determined by the location of the control panel. In most cases, you can’t use the whole front panel and you have to saw off a piece. This is because if the panel is higher you will not be able to see or operate the control panel.

Domestic dishwasher

A built-in dishwasher is almost the same as a freestanding dishwasher, except that it is placed under your kitchen sink. The dishwasher sits loose in the recess and isn’t covered by a front panel. The front of the dishwasher is fully visible, and the adjustable feet allow you to adjust the height so that it sits against the bottom of your countertop.

Make sure your dishwasher fits

Make sure you keep your tape measure tight and consider the type of dishwasher. Measure from one inside of the niche to the other and from the floor in front of your dishwasher to the bottom of your countertop.

Most dishwashers are between 60 and 65 centimetres wide, but you may have less space. In that case, you should opt for a narrow dishwasher. Even if you often run a half load, a narrow model can be a good choice. Once you’ve found the right type of dishwasher, you need to think about where you want the controls and what kind of door you want. This has everything to do with your kitchen plinth, if the plinth is lower than 9 centimetres you will need a built-in dishwasher with a drag door system. Otherwise, you can choose between a drag door system and a dishwasher with a door-on-door system.
