Why is my dishwasher not draining
Sometimes the water stays in your dishwasher and that is very annoying because you can’t use it anymore. The water that stays in your dishwasher can also start to smell, which is not pleasant in the kitchen. Fortunately, replacing your dishwasher is not always the only option you have. On this page, we answer the question “Why does water stay in my dishwasher?
Why doesn't the dishwasher pump off
If water is sitting in your machine without being pumped out, it could have the following causes:
Your dishwasher isn't pumping due to clogged filters
The first possible cause for why the dishwasher can’t pump out the water properly is that the filters are blocked. Remove the bottom rack from the dishwasher to view the clogged filter. When removing the filter from the dishwasher, always put on protective gloves. This is because your filter may be blocked by glass.
You can now safely remove the filter from the dishwasher and clean it with hot water. The filter consists of two components, the flat piece and the cylindrical filter. Do not use abrasive sponges or agents, they will damage the fragile filter.
The water does not pump out if the pump is defective
If something is blocking the pump, for example, food particles or a fork that has fallen between the racks, water will also remain. The pump does not work or does not work fully, so the water cannot be drained. The solution is very simple, you need to unblock the dishwasher pump. To get to the pump you sometimes need to remove the right side panel, you do this very easily by unscrewing the screws.
Also, immediately clean the drain hose by carefully loosening it and hanging it in a bucket. Then start the dishwashing program ‘pumping’. Let the dirty water run into the bucket and the problem is solved.
Your dishwasher is not pumping because the sink is clogged
It may not be something you immediately think of, but a clogged drain could be the reason water is staying in your dishwasher. When your drain is clogged, there is nowhere for water to drain in your kitchen, and therefore water in the dishwasher will also stay. The problem can be with the dishwasher drain hose, but also with the main drain that sits under sink. Proceed with caution here and always close the main valve first.
Finally, you should also keep in mind that your dishwasher will not drain the water if the control panel is stuck. For example, if the on-off button is stuck, it will start a new program each time while the old one is still running.
