Which dishwasher should I choose?

Which dishwasher is best for you depends on a number of factors. Here we have summarised the pros and cons of each type of dishwasher.

Detached dishwasher

A detached dishwasher stands alone in your kitchen, so you don’t have to sacrifice any kitchen cabinets. However, you do need to have enough room to put the dishwasher away. This is because a free-standing dishwasher will not fit in most kitchens, as it takes up too much space.

Besides space, you also need to consider connections. A dishwasher needs access to water and electricity, and you can’t just run a branch to anywhere.

Integrated dishwasher

The built-in dishwasher category can be divided into two parts. The fully integrated dishwasher, where the control panel is on the inside, and the semi-integrated dishwasher, where the control panel is on the outside.

What is the best dishwasher for you depends on what you find beautiful and convenient. This is because a fully integrated model won’t reveal the presence of a dishwasher as it is completely covered by a front panel that matches your kitchen.

Some people also find it easier to see the control panel while they are washing. This allows you to see how long the wash cycle has left, how hot the water is and whether you need to top up. With a built-in dishwasher where the control panel is on the inside, you can only see this information when you open the door. A built-in dishwasher is similar to a freestanding dishwasher except that it is placed under your kitchen worktop. The front of the dishwasher is fully visible. It often has a white or grey colour, making it stand out from the rest of the kitchen. Cleaning your dishwasher is also more of a chore with a built-in model, as the white or stainless steel exterior gets dirty quicker than the Plexiglas cover that you stick to the front of an integrated model.

Also, undercounter dishwashers can have the control panel on the inside or outside. You just don’t have a choice of a narrow model, as all undermount models have a standard dishwasher dimension of 60cm wide.

Small dishwasher

Just because you have a small kitchen doesn’t mean you don’t have enough room for a dishwasher. A narrow 45cm wide dishwasher can still fit into most kitchens.

That said, you should be aware that narrow dishwashers have less space for dishes. For example, a Siemens small model will hold 9 place settings, while a 60 cm wide model will hold 12. Each place setting equals one glass, one plate and one set of cutlery.

Efficient dishwasher

Most dishwashers are much more efficient than before. An average dishwasher uses 1 liter less water than washing dishes by hand, and the power consumption is also much lower than a non-efficient dishwasher. This means that you can be sure of making the right choice, despite the low water consumption.

We’ve collected the best dishwashers for you, so you can be sure of making the right choice!
