Dryer with drainage hose
Consider a dryer with a heat pump
If you’re ready for a new clothes dryer, we recommend a heat pump dryer with a drain hose to the water outlet. These require less maintenance and use a lot less energy than the average condenser or drain dryer. Below you can read how these dryers differ from each other.
Different ways to drain condensation
Dryers are designed to remove the remaining moisture from your laundry as it comes out of the washing machine. Of course, the moist, warm air that is released in the process (condensation) has to go somewhere too. Dryers have different ways of getting rid of that warm air.
- Collection in a reservoir: the moisture is transported to a reservoir, also called a ‘condensation tray’. You can empty this into the sink after drying;
- With hose via the water outlet: with the help of an outlet hose, the moist air is led to the water outlet. There is no need to empty the drain, but it is essential to have a water outlet in the room where the dryer is located;
- With hose to the outside: the moisture is removed with a hose to the outside. For this, it is important that you have a window near your dryer – otherwise, you can install a special hole in the wall for this purpose.
Note: With both a condenser dryer and a heat pump dryer, you have the choice between a condensate tray and drainage via a water outlet. Only in the case of the air-flow dryer does the air outlet lead outside. In general, we do not recommend purchasing an air-flow dryer. This is because these particular dryers consume a lot more energy – which is bad for your energy bill, but also for the environment. The average air-flow dryer uses up to 3 times more energy per drying cycle than a heat pump dryer.
