The best heat pump dryers with drains

Both methods of water collection and drainage have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you have to empty the tank manually each time, you may forget to do so and run the heat pump dryer with a full tank. This can affect performance and cause your laundry to dry less than it should. However, this problem is easily solved by a feature that the best heat pump tumble dryers have. They have a light that indicates when the tank must be emptied. A child’s play!

The downside of a heat pump dryer with drain is that it requires some effort to connect. It’s not a complicated task, but you do have to take the time. The drain is also more sensitive to leaks, as the hose can come loose or break. Fortunately, this is not a drawback to really worry about. The best heat pump dryers with drains are made so that the water drain is easy to attach yourself, and they also have a hose of a good and sturdy quality.

How to connect a heat pump dryer to the water drain?

How to connect a heat pump dryer to the water drain depends on the brand, but is always fairly simple. To start with, you need to find out where the water drain connection of the heat pump dryer is, it is always on the back of the heat pump dryer. Once you have found the connection, you need to think carefully about the next step. This is because some types of dryers require you to connect a free included drain hose to the water outlet, while others require you to remove the drain hose from the machine.

Drain hose length

When you need to connect a included drain hose yourself, it’s important to pay attention to a few things. First, check that the drain hose provided is long enough to cover the distance between the heat pump dryer and the water outlet. Most brands come with a drain hose that is about a foot and a half long. If the provided drain hose is not long enough, you can extend it by using a connector, a plastic tube that connects two hoses together. When using a connector, make sure you properly seal the hose clamps, otherwise your extended drain hose will leak. Do you think this is too much hassle? Then you can just buy a new drain hose. A heat pump drainage hose can be no longer than 3.5 metres, otherwise the water cannot be drained properly. Next, connect the new or included drain hose to the nozzle where the water comes out. Make sure that the drain hose is securely attached and that it cannot detach when the heat pump dryer is running! There should be a hose on the back of the unit that connects the reservoir to the water drain. You should pull this drain hose out at the water drain side. Often there is a holder next to this hose, which only has the function of keeping the old hose in place when not in use. If there is no bracket on the machine, you can always choose to attach the old drain hose yourself using a piece of tape or a tyrap. Otherwise, the hose is already attached to the heat pump dryer and you should remove it yourself. If the hose is only attached at one end, you’ll need to disconnect it and then connect the loose end to your water drain. You generally loosen a drain hose by pushing it out of the clamps, but you may also need a pair of scissors to cut it loose.

If the drain hose attaches to two sides, you first need to see which side you need to loosen it from. In some cases, it is attached to the inside of the heat pump dryer at one end and to the condensate pan at the other. You will then need to disconnect the hose from the tank side and connect that end to your water drain.

When you have connected the new or existing hose, it is important to make sure that it is sealed watertight on both sides and cannot leak or come loose. Also make sure that the hose is not tangled or otherwise obstructing the flow of water, as standing water can become very unpleasant smelling and can also damage the hose.

Please note that some heat pump dryers require you to select the drain option in the System Preferences. This can be either water drainage in the tank or through the hose. Always consult the manual of your heat pump dryer to check which steps to follow.
