How to stack a dishwasher and washing machine?

If you really don’t have room to put your washing machine and dishwasher next to each other, you can also put the dishwasher on top of the washing machine – but not the other way around! Washing machines are very heavy, and the dishwasher probably can’t handle the weight.

Many people put their dryer on top of their washing machine, and that doesn’t cause any problems either. Why would a dishwasher? Washing machines can vibrate quite loudly, especially during the spin cycle. This vibration is probably not a problem for the dishwasher itself, but it might be for what’s inside. Your dishes, such as plates, glasses and so on will vibrate during the spin and might get broken.

Tips for putting your dishwasher on top of your washing machine

Placing a dishwasher on top of a washing machine might seem like a good idea, but it’s pretty unusual. So our advice remains: if you can place the two appliances side by side, do so. This remains the best option because it is safe. Dishwashers are not made to be placed on top of washing machines. That said: do you really have no other choice? Be sure to read our tips for stacking a washing machine and dishwasher.

Invest in vibration dampers

Vibration dampers are normally placed under the legs of a washing machine to reduce vibration so they make less noise and don’t damage the floor. However, they also come in handy if you want to place your dishwasher on top of your washing machine, and for that reason avoid the vibration.

Remove your dishwasher

The chances of your dishwasher itself breaking down due to the vibration of your washing machine are small. What you should be aware of, however, is that your dirty dishes can get broken during the spin cycle of your washing machine. Another way to reduce the vibration of your washing machine is to place it in a cabinet. This will hold the appliance completely in place, and it won’t be able to move in any direction. There are also special washing machine cabinets where you can put your dryer as well. Depending on the size of your dishwasher, you could put it in there as well. This way the weight of the dishwasher isn’t on top of the washing machine. However, make sure the cabinet has enough room for the dishwasher’s water and electricity connections.
