Dishwasher on washing machine
Even if you live small, you like to have all the conveniences. A washing machine is virtually essential and a dishwasher is actually quite handy as well. However, these are two large appliances, and in a small kitchen you want to save as much space as possible. So why not put them on top of each other? We don’t recommend it, but it’s possible! Read all about stacking your dishwasher and washing machine here.
How to stack a dishwasher and washing machine
If you really don’t have room to put your washing machine and dishwasher next to each other, you can also put the dishwasher on top of the washing machine – but not the other way around! Washing machines are very heavy, and probably the dishwasher can’t handle this weight.
Many people put their dryer on top of their washing machine, and that doesn’t cause any problems either. Why should this be the case with a dishwasher?
Washing machines can vibrate quite loudly, especially during the spin cycle. These vibrations are probably not a problem for the dishwasher itself, but possibly for what is inside. Your dishes, such as plates, glasses and so on, will vibrate with it during the spin cycle and may break.

Tips for putting your dishwasher on top of your washing machine
Putting a dishwasher on top of a washing machine may seem like a good idea, but it’s pretty unusual. So our advice remains: if you can place the two appliances next to each other, do so. This remains the best option because it is safe. Dishwashers are not made to be placed on top of washing machines. That said: do you really have no other choice? Take a good look at our tips for stacking a washing machine and dishwasher.
Invest in vibration dampers
Vibration dampers are normally placed under the legs of a washing machine to reduce vibration so they make less noise and don’t damage the floor. But they also come in handy if you want to place your dishwasher on top of your washing machine, and for that reason avoid the vibrations.
Clean out your dishwasher
The chances that your dishwasher itself will break down due to the vibrations of your washing machine are small. What you should take into account, however, is that your dirty dishes can break during the spin of your washing machine. Therefore, empty your dishwasher before you turn on your washing machine.
Place them in a washing machine cabinet
Another way to counter vibration of your washing machine is to place it in a washing machine cabinet. Here the appliance is completely stuck, and can’t move in any direction. There are also special washing machine cabinets where you can put your dryer as well. Depending on the size of your dishwasher, you could also put it in there. This way the weight of the dishwasher is not on top of the washing machine. Just keep in mind that the cabinet should provide enough space for the dishwasher’s water and electrical connections.
