A brand can be a fine and reliable indicator of which washing machine is right for you. Perhaps you have good experiences with the LG brand or have heard promising stories. But of course, there are more things to consider when buying a new washing machine. Washing machines are complicated devices with different specifications and features. Here is exactly what you need to consider when buying an LG washing machine.
Type of washing machine
With washing machines, you often have a choice between a front-loading and a top-loading machine. The front loader is the most popular and also more readily available. These have the door at the front, making it easy to put a dryer on top of your washer. The top loading washer has the door on the front, which can be handy because you don’t have to bend over as much. LG does not have top loading washing machines. However, you can add a small LG Mini Washer to your Main Washer (top loader) using LG TwinWash. Looking for a regular top loader? Then you’ll have to look at other brands. Miele and AEG, for example, do offer top loaders.
Fill Weight
The fill weight is one of the most important features of a washing machine. This is because it determines how many kg of laundry will fit in the drum. How much fill weight you need depends largely on the size of the household. If you’re with 1 or 2 people, choose a washing machine with a 6 or 7 kg load. If you have 3 or 4 people, we’d recommend 8kg. Are there 5 or more of you? Then you should look at a washing machine with 9 kg or more. LG produces 8kg, 9kg and 10kg washing machines. They also have a 17kg model.
Energy Class
The energy class of a washing machine is also known as the energy label. This indicates how energy efficient the appliance is. Energy efficient washing machines have energy class A, B or C and are generally slightly more expensive. Good to know: in use they are much cheaper, they keep your energy bill low. This means you can save money by buying an energy efficient washing machine. LG washing machines are always somewhere between energy class A and E.
RPM
The RPM gives an indication of how dry your laundry will be after the spin. The higher the spin speed, the faster the drum will spin and the drier your laundry will be. For the driest possible wash, choose a washer with 1600 rpm. However, there is only one LG washer that makes 1600 rpm. Most make up to 1400 rpm during the spin cycle. 1400 rpm (rounds per minute) is also considered a high speed.
Sound level of spin
Not all washing machines make the same amount of noise. If you want a quiet washing machine, look at ‘spin sound level’ for this. This gives an indication of how much noise the washing machine produces during the spin in decibels. Washing machines are divided into 4 categories: loud (78 dB or more), normal (74 dB to 77 dB), quiet (72 dB or 73 dB) and very quiet: (71 dB or less). Most LG washing machines are quiet, but there are also several models that fall under the category of ‘normal’ or ‘extra quiet’.
