Information about Miele washing machines

The German brand Miele has been making washing machines since the 1960s and is known for delivering quality. The annual survey by the Consumers’ Association on washing machine brands, also showed that Miele scores the highest on brand satisfaction, with a 9.4! The survey showed that every owner of a Miele washing machine is planning to buy a new one next time.

However, that won’t be necessary anytime soon because Miele washing machines last much longer than the average washing machine. In fact, a Miele washing machine lasts an average of 16.6 years! For comparison; the lifespan of the average washing machine is about 10 years.

Like most other new home appliances from Miele, you can connect and control your Miele washing machine through the Miele Home app. This allows you to turn on the washing machine anytime, anywhere – for example, so you can hang up your laundry immediately when you get home from work.

Miele washing machines can have several brand-specific features that we’d like to explain in more detail. All of them ensure that your laundry stays beautiful for longer or that you use less water and energy while washing.

Miele washing machine technology

Miele PowerWash

With PowerWash, washing is faster and more economical. With QuickPowerWash, you can even wash your clothes (in a half-full drum) hygienically clean within 50 minutes. With this clever washing treatment, the washing machine sprays water with detergent over your laundry. This gets you done faster and uses less water and energy. The Miele washing machines that have these washing programs can be recognized by the name, namely ‘PowerWash’ is mentioned in it.

Miele TwinDos

With TwinDos, your clothes stay beautiful longer, wash after wash. Your TwinDos washing machine doses itself how much detergent is needed to get your laundry clean and automatically adds it to the wash in the drum. The average Dutch person does not use the right amount of detergent during the wash cycle, which causes poor washing results and can be harmful to your clothes. With a TwinDos washing machine, you no longer have to worry about this. TwinDos models can also be recognized by their name.

SoftCare trommel

The SoftCare drum from Miele ensures that your clothes wear less quickly during washing. The specially designed drum creates a thin layer of water between the drum wall and the laundry. As a result, they hardly come into contact with each other and the SoftCare drum reduces the chance of wrinkles and wear.

Miele CapDosing

Miele CapDosing detergent and fabric softener capsules contain the exact amount of detergent and/or fabric softener for different types of laundry. This way, the most beautiful and fragile garments last longer. You use the CapDosign capsules in combination with specific wash programs for the best results. There are Miele CapDosing capsules for silk, wool and sports and outdoor clothing, among others.

Buying a Miele washing machine: what to look out for

Because Miele makes such good washing machines, you would almost think that you would always be on the safe side with one. However, there can still be quite a difference between two different Miele washing machines. No matter how good a brand is, there are always more specifications to look for when buying a new washing machine. What all you need to look out for, we reveal in the following tips.

Type of washing machines

When it comes to washing machines, you have a choice between front-loading and top-loading models. Front-loading washing machines are by far the most widely chosen and produced. Front loaders have the door to the drum at the front, giving you space on top for a dryer, for example. Top loading washing machines are somewhat rarer. They have the door sitting at the top, so you don’t have to bend over as much when doing laundry. Although Miele mainly sells front-loading models, they also have some top-loading washing machines.

Filling Weight

The fill weight is one of the most important features of a washing machine. This is because it determines how many kg of laundry will fit in the drum. It is important that you choose a washing machine with the right amount of fill weight for your household. If the drum is too small, you will have to wash unnecessarily. And if it’s too big, you’ll have to wash at half load. In both situations, you’ll use more water and energy than necessary. Miele produces washing machines with a fill weight between 6 kg and 9 kg, most have fill weight 8 kg. If you don’t know how much fill weight you need, you can take the following recommendations as an indication:

  1. Filling weight 6 kg or 7 kg for a household of 1 or 2 people
  2. Filling weight 8 kg for a household of 3 or 4 persons
  3. Filling weight 9 kg or more for a household of 5 or more

Energy class

Also known as an energy label or energy efficiency class, the energy class gives an indication of how energy efficient a washing machine is. Energy efficient washing machines have energy class A, B or C and are generally slightly more expensive to purchase. On the other hand, these models are better for the environment and they keep your energy bills low. That way you can actually save money by choosing a washing machine with energy class A, B or C. The vast majority of Miele washing machines have energy class A, only a few have energy class B or C, and it doesn’t get any lower.

RPM

The RPM of a washing machine indicates how many rounds the drum makes per minute while spinning. The higher the spin speed, the drier your laundry will come out of the washer. For the driest laundry possible, choose a spin speed of 1600 rpm (rounds per minute). Several Miele models reach the speed of 1600 rpm during the spin, however, there are more models with a max speed of 1400 rpm and some models that go no faster than 1200 rpm. Both 1600 and 1400 rpm are considered high speed.

Motor type

There are different types of motors for washing machines. Appliances with a brushless motor generally operate a lot quieter, more economical and more durable than washing machines powered by a carbon brush motor. Most washing machine models from Miele use a brushless motor, only a few models still have a carbon brush drive.

Washing Programs

Depending on the composition of your household, your clothing style and hobbies, you may need special laundry programs. Not every appliance offers exactly the same features, so it’s good to look at details like these. There are special wash programs for sportswear, baby clothes, jeans, wool, silk or in connection with allergies, among others.

Noise level

The noise level gives an indication of how much noise the washing machine makes when it is at its loudest – during the spin cycle. Washing machines are divided into 4 categories: loud (78 dB or more), normal (74 dB to 77 dB), quiet (72 dB or 73 dB) and extra quiet: (71 dB or less). The bulk of Miele washing machine models fall under sound level extra quiet, and a few under normal or quiet.
