Information about Miele

The German brand Miele has been making washing machines since the 1960s and is known for delivering quality. The annual survey by the Consumers’ Association on washing machine brands, also showed that Miele scores highest on brand satisfaction, with a 9.4! The survey showed that every owner of a Miele washing machine is planning to buy a new one next time.

This will not be necessary as Miele washing machines last much longer than the average washing machine. In fact, a Miele washing machine lasts an average of 16.6 years! For comparison; the lifespan of the average washing machine is about 10 years.

Like most other new home appliances from Miele, you can connect and control your Miele washing machine through the Miele Home app. This allows you to turn on the washing machine anytime, anywhere – for example, so you can hang your laundry up immediately when you get home from work.

Miele washing machine features

Miele PowerWash

With PowerWash, washing is faster and more economical. With QuickPowerWash you can even wash your clothes (in a half-full drum) hygienically clean within 50 minutes. With this clever washing treatment, the washing machine sprays water with detergent over your laundry. This way, you’re done faster and use less water and energy. The Miele washing machines that have these programmes can be recognised by their name, which mentions ‘PowerWash’.

Miele TwinDos

With TwinDos your clothes stay beautiful longer, wash after wash. Your TwinDos washing machine doses itself how much detergent is needed to get your laundry clean and automatically adds it to the wash in the drum. The average person in the Netherlands does not use the right amount of detergent during the wash cycle, which leads to poor washing results and can be harmful to your clothes. With a TwinDos washing machine, you no longer have to worry about this. Miele’s SoftCare drum ensures that your clothes do not wear out as quickly during washing. The specially designed drum creates a thin layer of water between the drum wall and the laundry. As a result, they barely come into contact with each other, and the SoftCare drum reduces the chance of wrinkles and wear.

Miele CapDosing

Miele CapDosing detergent and fabric softener capsules contain the exact amount of detergent and/or fabric softener for different types of laundry. This way, the most beautiful and fragile garments last longer. You use the CapDosign capsules in combination with specific washing programmes for the best result. There are Miele CapDosing capsules for items such as silk, wool and sports and outdoor clothing.

Buying a Miele washing machine; what to look out for?

Because Miele makes such good washing machines, you would almost think that you are always on the safe side with this. However, there can still be quite a difference between two different Miele washing machines. No matter how good a brand is, there are always more specifications to look for when buying a new washing machine. What to look for is explained in the following tips.

Type of washing machine

With washing machines, you can choose between front-load and top-load models. Front loading washing machines are by far the most commonly chosen and manufactured. Front loading washers have the door to the drum at the front, giving you space on top for a dryer, for example. Top loading washing machines are a little rarer. They have the door at the top, so you don’t have to bend over as much when doing laundry. Although Miele mainly sells front loading models, they also have some top loading machines.

Fill Weight

The fill weight is one of the most important features of a washing machine. This is because it determines how many kg of laundry will fit in the drum. It is important that you choose a washing machine with the right amount of fill weight for your household. If it’s too small, you’ll have to wash more often than necessary. And if it’s too big, you’ll have to wash at half the normal load. In both situations, you’ll use more water and energy than necessary. Miele produces washing machines with a fill weight of between 6kg and 9kg, with most having a fill weight of 8kg. If you don’t know how much fill weight you need, you can use the following recommendations as a guide:

  • Fill weight 6 kg or 7 kg for a household of 1 or 2 people
  • Fill weight 8 kg for a household of 3 or 4 people
  • Filled weight 9 kg or more for a household of 5 or more

RPM

The spin speed of a washing machine indicates how many cycles the drum completes per minute while it is spinning. The higher the spin speed, the drier your laundry will be. For the driest possible wash, choose a spin speed of 1600 rpm (rounds per minute). Several Miele models reach 1600 rpm during the spin cycle, however there are more models with a maximum speed of 1400 rpm and some models that don’t go beyond 1200 rpm. Both 1600 and 1400 rpm are considered high speed.

Energy Rating

The energy rating is also known as an energy label or energy efficiency rating and gives an indication of the energy efficiency of a washing machine. Energy efficient washing machines have energy class A, B or C and are generally slightly more expensive to buy. On the other hand, these models are better for the environment and they keep your energy bills low. So you can actually save money by choosing a washing machine with energy class A, B or C. The vast majority of Miele washing machines have energy class A, only a few have energy class B or C, and it doesn’t get any lower.

Centrifugation Noise Level

The noise level gives an indication of how much noise the washing machine makes when it is at its loudest – during the spin cycle. Washing machines are divided into 4 categories: loud (78 dB or more), normal (74 dB to 77 dB), quiet (72 dB or 73 dB) and extra quiet: (71 dB or less). The majority of Miele washing machine models fall under sound level extra quiet, and a few under normal or quiet.

Type of motor

There are different types of motors for washing machines. Appliances with a brushless motor generally operate a lot quieter, more economical and more durable than washing machines powered by a carbon brush motor. Most Miele washing machine models use a brushless motor, with only a few models still having a carbon brush drive.

Washing programs

Depending on the makeup of your household, your clothing style and hobbies, you may need special washing programs. Not every appliance offers exactly the same features, so it’s good to look at details like this. There are special wash programs for sportswear, baby clothes, jeans, wool, silk or for allergy reasons, among others.
