Water lock on the washing machine

A water lock on a washing machine is a safety device at the washing machine tap that ensures that only a limited number of litres can flow from the tap. So if there is a leakage, the tap will be closed and the leakage will be stopped.

What is a water seal

To be able to choose the right washing machine, it is useful to know whether you want a water lock or not. And if you want one, whether it has to be built in or can be bought separately. We put the different water guards in a row for you. Preventing or minimizing water damage is important, even with a new dishwasher.

There are three types of water protections: the soil sensor, the hose protector, and the overflow protector. Newer washing machines often have at least one protection, and the better washing machines even have several.

Bottom sensor

This protection is built in, and is mostly found in the newest washing machines. The sensor is literally on the bottom of the washing machine and detects water in the built-in drip tray. If too much water is registered, the sensor can turn off the washing machine or even cut off the water supply. This sensor does a good job of protecting against water damage when the problem is in the washer itself, but does not detect leaks in the supply or drain hose.

Hose protection

This protection is also built in, namely in the supply hose. However you can also buy a separate hose with a hose protection on it when it’s not delivered with the washing machine. This hose has two layers, so damage to the inner layer results in an extra outer layer. When water gets between the two layers it is detected at the end of the hose and the water supply is cut off. The advantage is that leakage in the supply hose is quickly detected and water damage is thus prevented, but a leak in the washing machine itself is not detected.

Overflow protection

This security system keeps an eye on the water level. If the water level is too high, it will immediately pump the water away. This prevents the drum from overflowing. The sensor therefore measures the water level in the drum itself, but does not protect against leakage from the water supply hose.

Parts for sale

  1. Hose protection, here you must take into account the brand.
  2. Drip trays can also be bought separately. Newer washing machines often have drip trays built in.
  3. A water stop can be placed between the tap and supply hose, this allows you to determine how much water flows through the water stop.
