When should you buy a new dishwasher?

There may be several reasons to buy a new dishwasher. Here are a few:

Reason 1: You’re getting a new kitchen

One of the reasons you might buy a new dishwasher is, of course, that you’re getting a new kitchen. Sometimes you trade in your freestanding dishwasher for a built-in dishwasher or vice versa. Not all freestanding dishwashers can be converted to a fully integrated dishwasher, in which case you’ll need a new model. You’ll need a new dishwasher if your old one no longer fits in your kitchen. That may be because of the model, but it may also be because of the look.

Reason 2: You trade in your old model for an economical dishwasher

You can also buy a new dishwasher because you are looking for an energy-efficient one. New dishwashers often have a much better energy label, which can save you a lot on your annual costs. It is then more economical to invest in a new model, as you can sometimes earn back an energy-efficient dishwasher in just a few years.

When should you replace your old dishwasher?

You should buy another dishwasher when the performance is no longer optimal. Are your dishes clean? Then your dishwasher can last for a while. If your dishes no longer get clean even though your pump or drain isn’t clogged and you use plenty of cleaning products, it’s time for a new model.

Does a built-in dishwasher last longer than a freestanding dishwasher?

A built-in dishwasher is often slightly more expensive than a freestanding dishwasher, but that doesn’t always mean it will last longer. They’re mainly more expensive because they need to be modified to be fully integrated into your kitchen.

So it’s not true that a fully integrated dishwasher will actually last longer. How often and in what way you use the dishwasher has more influence on the wear and tear than the type of dishwasher.

To make sure your dishwasher lasts as long as possible, it’s a good idea to choose a dishwasher that fits the number of place settings. A built-in dishwasher can be either 45 cm wide or 60 cm wide, with the former having space for 9 to 10 place settings and the latter for 12 – 14. This will also help with your water usage. You calculate the number of place settings based on your household, one place setting equals a plate, a glass and cutlery for one person. Also consider that you will need more place settings if you regularly want to clean large items in the dishwasher.

Detached dishwashers are not covered on the sides, so they are more likely to get damage on the outside. This can also cause wear and tear in the long run. So make sure your freestanding dishwasher is always well protected. For example, don’t put it next to a door that bumps into it all the time when you open it.

Picking a dishwasher

There are several models on the market if you are looking for a dishwasher. For example, an aeg dishwasher often appears in the lists of best dishwashers, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for you. What kind of dishwasher is best for you depends on your wants and needs.

During your search, you should always compare dishwashers. Perhaps the dishwasher that is the most economical is the best option for you, or it’s not the energy rating that attracts you, but rather a low noise level. Additional features such as a load sensor, delayed start, short program time and leak prevention technology should also be considered.

The choice between a fully integrated and a freestanding model is also not made in a day. This is because a built-in dishwasher with your control panel on the outside has other advantages over a dishwasher that is freestanding. You don’t have to give up a kitchen cabinet for a freestanding dishwasher, but often only an open kitchen is big enough to fit a freestanding dishwasher.

Then there are many popular brands that offer dishwashers. Most of those brands offer different sizes, so you can always find a dishwasher that fits your kitchen. Measurement is knowledge! A built-in or under-counter dishwasher should fit under your sink and between your kitchen cabinets. On the outside, you’ll need the option to open the door all the way, which should allow for at least a metre of clearance.

So do your research before buying a dishwasher!
