Dryer without drain hose

A dryer without an exhaust hose drains the condensation water from the dryer into the water tank inside the dryer. You will need to empty this tank after each drying cycle. This can be very advantageous if the dryer is located in a place where there is no drain nearby. Are you looking for a dryer without an exhaust pipe? Dryer without a hose, is that possible?

Dryers are designed to extract residual water from your laundry after it comes out of the washing machine. This produces a humid, warm air that naturally has to go somewhere. Often the moisture is removed by a hose, either to the water outlet or outside, but there is another way. The following is a guide to how dryers get rid of moisture.

  • With a hose to the water outlet; using a drain hose, the moist air is led to the outlet. However, this is only possible if you have a water outlet in the room of the dryer.
  • With hose to the outside: the moisture is expelled to the outside with a drain hose. For this, it is important that you have a window near your dryer. If you do not have a window in your laundry room, you can make a special hole in the wall for this purpose.
  • Collection in a tank: the moisture is drained into a tank, also known as a ‘condensate pan’. If you choose a dryer with a condensate drip tray, you will not need a drain, window or hole in the wall. However, you should be aware that you will need to empty this tray regularly, around every drying session.

Types of tumble driers

There are several different types of tumble drier, and not all are available with a condensation tray. Below you can read exactly what the difference between the different clothes dryers is.

Heat pump dryer

The majority of clothes dryers sold today are heat pump dryers. This is because they have a longer life and dry a lot more economically than the alternatives by using a very low drying temperature. This keeps your energy bills down, is better for the environment and also makes your clothes last longer. Almost every heat pump dryer is in energy class A+, A++ or A+++. Most are very energy efficient and have energy label A+++. Almost all heat pump dryers have a reservoir, but be sure to check this to be sure!

Condenser dryer

The condenser dryer uses a high temperature when drying your clothes, so it is less energy efficient. When using a condenser dryer, your laundry will wear out a little faster and your energy bill will be a little higher. Most condenser dryers are rated class B. Almost all condenser dryers have a water tank that needs to be emptied after each drying cycle, but be sure to check when you buy. They also only have an exhaust hose to the outside, so they do not have a condensation tray. Because of their high energy consumption per cycle and lack of a water basin, we do not recommend this type of tumble dryer.

Conclusion

The heat pump dryer and condenser dryer are tumble dryers without a hose. Both types, in most cases, have a condensate tray that needs to be emptied once in a while. Of these two types, the heat pump dryer is the most economical. It uses a lower temperature when drying, which means it consumes less energy and will last longer with your laundry.

Tip: If you choose a dryer with a self-cleaning condenser, you will not have to clean the condenser yourself. This keeps the dryer energy efficient. Only heat pump dryers have a self-cleaning condenser.
