The best Cheap dryer

Buying a cheap dryer

The prices of dryers are very different. You can buy a dryer for as little as 250 euros, but some people will pay 2000 euros for it. There are several reasons why people choose a more expensive dryer. Below you will find all possible reasons, and to what extent they are relevant.

Quality and brand

Some people are very attached to certain brands. And for a bigger brand, you often pay more. Research by the Consumers’ Association shows that users of a Miele dryer are most satisfied with their purchase. Miele tumble dryers perform well and do much to improve ease of use. On the other hand, Miele is the most expensive brand for clothes dryers. Other brands that score high according to the Consumers’ Association are Bosch, Siemens and AEG.

But of course the brand and the price range are no guarantee of a good appliance. The brand and price may be an indication of good design and materials, but it is not a guarantee. And it certainly does not mean that cheaper clothes dryers are necessarily bad. Beko is a good example of a brand that offers good value for money. According to the Consumers’ Association, they score the highest in this category. Beko clothes dryers are both good and cheap! In addition, users of Indesit and Zanussi clothes dryers are also very happy with the price-quality ratio.

More features and better specifications

In general, a cheap clothes dryer offers fewer options and features. But of course you can ask yourself if you really need all that ‘fuss’. Dryers today offer several additional features to make washing and drying easier for you and the rest of your household. For example, through a shorter drying time, more drying programs, a self-cleaning condenser or control via an app. Do you think you could benefit from this? Then it might be worthwhile to set aside some extra budget. But if all that matters to you is that your dryer gets your laundry dry, then go for a simple, inexpensive clothes dryer.

Lagere energiekosten

As a rule, a cheap clothes dryer uses more energy per drying cycle than a more expensive clothes dryer. This is mainly due to the type of dryer, but also to the energy label. There are three types of tumble dryers, we will be happy to explain the differences:

  1. Airflow dryers are often the most economical to buy but consume the most energy. At the time of purchase it is therefore advantageous, but for your energy bill and the environment it is not a good choice. For this reason, the extractor dryer is also being sold less these days. Also good to know about the air-flow dryer: this dryer can only discharge the moist air through a window or a hole in the wall.
  2. The energy consumption of the condenser dryer is lower, but it is slightly more expensive. With condenser dryers, the moisture is drained into a condensate pan (reservoir that you must empty manually), or you can choose to connect your condenser dryer to the water drain.
  3. The heat pump dryer is the most energy efficient of the three. Therefore, buying a heat pump dryer will also be more expensive, but because they are so economical, you can still save money with them. With a heat pump dryer in energy class A+++, you can save up to € 75,- per year on your energy bill. You can also connect your heat pump dryer to the water drainage, or use a condensate drip tray.

More about the energy class. This is also known as an energy label and determines how efficiently a dryer dries your laundry. A heat pump dryer with energy class A+++ will generally be a lot more expensive to buy than, say, an air vent dryer or condenser dryer with energy class B, but it will save you money in use. Of course, that’s a choice you have to make yourself.

What to look out for when buying a cheap tumble dryer

On average, a clothes dryer lasts around 2,500 drying cycles, so it is important that you buy one that suits you and your household. However, because you do not have to buy a new dryer so often, you may forget what you need to consider. In the following tips you can read exactly what you need to consider when buying a cheap dryer.

Dryer type

In the past, we have explained the difference between the different types of tumble dryer: an air-flow dryer, a condenser dryer and a heat pump dryer. Of these, airflow dryers are the cheapest and use the most energy. Heat pump dryers are the most expensive, but also the most energy efficient. For this reason, heat pump dryers are often the cheapest to run and the most economical in the long run.

Energy class

The energy consumption goes largely along with the type of dryer, but there may still be a difference. There are also heat pump dryers with energy class B and condenser dryers with energy label A+++. To keep your energy costs down, choose a dryer that is energy efficient.

Condensate drain

Of course, the moisture that your dryer extracts from laundry has to go somewhere. Dryers have 3 ways of draining the water. Air extraction dryers drain the moisture through a hose to the outside, through a window or a hole in the wall. With both the heat pump dryer and the condenser dryer, you have a choice. Almost all of them have a hose that can be connected to the water drain, but they also have a condensation tank. This is a tank that needs to be emptied regularly. Choose this option if you don’t have a water drain near your dryer.

Filling Weight

The fill weight indicates the capacity of the dryer. In other words, how many pounds of laundry will fit in the drum. We recommend that you buy a dryer with a fill weight at least as large as that of your washing machine. That way, you can be sure that all your wet laundry will fit in the dryer. Do you still have doubts about the fill weight? Then we recommend the following: for a household with 1 or 2 persons, 6 or 7 kg. For a family of 3 or 4 people, 8 kg. And for a household with 5 people or more, a fill weight of 9 kg or more.
