How to install a tumble dryer

To install a tumble dryer, follow these steps: Choose the location of the tumble dryer. Does your dryer have a water drainage hose? Then choose a place where you can connect it to a drain. Make sure the dryer is stable and that there is room to open the door. Once the dryer is in place, it's time to connect it to the water drainage hose (if possible). Finally connect the dryer to the power supply. The dryer is now ready to use!

Installation of a tumble dryer

  1. Air outlet: make sure that the dryer can get rid of the air. This can be done by means of an exhaust hose or tube, so that the air can be discharged in a targeted way. The vent may not be too long or have too many bends to prevent the air from leaving the device with difficulty, as this is not conducive to the quality of the dryer.
  2. Water drainage: a condenser dryer collects moisture in a water tank or through a water drainage hose and therefore does not require an air outlet. When you buy a condenser tumble dryer, check to see if it has a water tank or a water extraction hose. It is sometimes necessary to buy an extra hose. The hose can be connected to the sink’s trap or to the washing machine’s drain. For this, it is useful to look at the instructions for the drain hose. If it is not possible or practical to attach a water drainage hose to a drain, it can also be drained directly into a sink, wash basin or well by simply laying the hose in or on top of it.
  3. Ensures that the tumble dryer is stable, this is done by using the correct silencers, which also works against unnecessary noise, but also by placing the tumble dryer level. Because the equipment is level, there are no unnecessary vibrations, which can cause more noise and wear. In addition, almost all tumble dryers have adjustable legs whereby the legs can be set independently from each other.
  4. Make sure the direction of the door rotates to fit the space. You can often sort by the direction of the door when buying a washing machine. If the washer and dryer are on top of each other, it is convenient to have the direction of rotation of both doors on the same side, but it is not necessary.
  5. Condensation dryers can cause a small space to become damp if the condensing dryer does not sufficiently condense the moisture in the air. How well a dryer can remove moisture from the air is called its condensation efficiency. This condensation efficiency automatically gets worse in a poorly ventilated room, which can cause mold.
  6. A dryer can be placed on top of a washing machine. The other way round is not a good idea because of the vibrations of the washing machine during the spinning process. Make sure you have the right dampers between the appliances. Sometimes it is useful to buy a spacer kit, also called a stacking kit. These come in both universal form and specially made for a certain brand of washer/dryer and washing machine. It is useful if the doors have the same direction of rotation.
  7. If the tumble dryer is to be placed under a worktop, it is useful to ensure that there is sufficient space above and next to the tumble dryer. The top of a tumble dryer can often be removed to make it less high and therefore more suitable for under a worktop.
  8. Observe the following aspects when positioning the tumble dryer: do not place anything in front of the air intake and exhaust openings.
  9. Make sure that the distance between the floor and the bottom of the dryer is not less than the original distance. This can be the case with a high pile carpet or with certain shelves under the dryer. This space is needed to dissipate the heat. It can be useful to adjust the legs upwards. However, make sure there is stability.
  10. For the efficiency of the dryer, it is useful to place the dryer in a warm room, which means that the dryer uses less energy. It is important that a condensing and heat pump dryer in a ventilated space.
  11. Put the dryer in a place where not much dirt accumulates.
  12. Finally, it is useful to check carefully after installation if there is a leak somewhere and if the dryer is stable and not very much vibrating or moved. It is a pity to find this out only after a long period of time, also because it can be more harmful for the dryer.
