How long can laundry stay in the washing machine

In general, you can leave your laundry in the drum for up to 12 hours after the wash cycle has ended. If you leave your laundry in the drum too long after washing, it may start to smell. And some times this seems to happen faster than others, so we recommend putting your laundry in the dryer or hanging it up as soon as possible. Under certain circumstances, laundry can start to smell faster; for example, if it is very hot outside or if your washing machine is not very clean. Certain types of laundry will also smell faster than others, for example sportswear.
