What to look for when buying a cheap washing machine?

Are you looking to buy a cheap washing machine? The selection in stores and online is huge! And there are washing machines available in all different price ranges. How much a washing machine costs depends on many different aspects. Ideally, you would like to find a cheap washing machine without having to compromise on quality. But first and foremost, the washing machine needs to meet the basic requirements of you and your household. One of the main ways to distinguish between washing machines is the location of the door. With this, you have the choice between a top-loading and a front-loading washer. The front loading washer has the door on the front and is the most popular. Many people choose a front loading washer because it gives you the option to put your dryer on top of it. The other option is the top loading washer. This type of washing machine has the fill opening on top, which makes it easier to reach the drum to pick up your laundry. Both types of washing machines are available in different price ranges. However, far fewer top loaders are produced, so it can be harder to find this type of washer.

Fill Weight

The fill weight is one aspect of a washing machine that you don’t want to compromise on. The fill weight indicates how many kg of laundry will fit in the drum; in other words, the capacity of the washing machine. How much fill weight you need depends largely on the size of your household. If you’re a one or two person household, you might want to go for a 6kg or 7kg washing machine. If you are a 3 or 4 person household, an 8kg machine would be better. If you have a household of 5 or more, we recommend a 9kg or 10kg machine. Washing machines with lower loads are often cheaper. However, you’ll end up having to wash more often if you choose a machine that’s underweight for the size of your household. The energy rating of a washing machine indicates its energy efficiency, which is also known as the energy label. Energy efficient washing machines have energy class A, B or C. In general, energy efficient washing machines are slightly more expensive to buy, but there are definitely cheaper washing machines to find with energy class A, B and C. In addition, these washing machines, because they are so energy efficient, are much cheaper to run. They keep your energy bills nice and low. They will keep your energy bills as low as possible, as well as being the best choice for the environment! The faster it spins, the drier the laundry will be. If you want your laundry to come out of the washing machine as dry as possible, you need a washing machine that spins at 1600 rpm. You can find relatively cheap washing machines with this rpm, but you will find more that run 1400 rpm. 1400 rpm is still considered a high rpm. There are also washing machines that run at 1200 rpm. But these are not necessarily cheaper than the 1400 rpm machines.

Sound level

The sound level gives an indication of how loud a washing machine is when it is at its loudest – during the spin cycle. In this, one distinguishes between washing machines that are ‘loud’, ‘normal’, ‘quiet’ and ‘extra quiet’. You can find slightly less inexpensive washing machines that fall into the quiet and extra quiet categories, but they are there. Quiet washing machines produce 72 dB or 73 dB, extra quiet produce 71 dB or 70 dB.

Ease of Use

New washing machines are offering more and more options to make washing easier for the user. These include features such as automatic detergent dosing, a load sensor and control via an app. Make sure your new washing machine has these features if you think you can benefit from them. But remember that these luxuries can add to the price of a washing machine. Many cheap washing machines are also a bit simpler, so make your decision carefully.

Wash programs

There are many different programs for washing all kinds of laundry. Depending on what’s in your wardrobe, you may need such laundry programs. These include special programs for sportswear, baby clothes, stains and colour care. There are also special programs that use less water and energy – so the wash itself costs less.

Brands

Big brands are synonymous with quality and longevity. In many cases this is true, but it is no guarantee. Experience has taught us that there are also plenty of cheap washing machines that wash at a high quality and easily last 10 years.

You pay more for big brands, such as Bosch, AEG, Miele, Siemens and Samsung. However, there are also some cheaper washing machine brands with an excellent reputation! These include Beko, Indesit, Zanussi, Haier and Proline. Do you have doubts about buying a washing machine of a ‘lesser known’ brand? Then we recommend you to look at the build quality and the wash quality of the washing machine. This also gives an indication of the quality of the product and how many years it will last.
