How big is a washing machine

When you talk about the size of a washing machine, you can aim at different aspects; the actual dimensions or the amount of fill weight. Both depend on the model of washing machine. The fill weight indicates how many pounds of laundry you can put in the drum per wash. This starts at about 6 kg and can go up to 12 kg. The size of a washing machine differs (largely) because of the type of washing machine; top loading or front loading. A front-loading washing machine usually has a height of 85 cm, a width of 60 and a depth between 60 and 70 cm. Top loaders have a height of 90 cm, a width of 40 cm and a depth of about 60 cm. As a result, top loaders often have a smaller fill weight.

How does a washing machine work

After loading the laundry and detergent, close the door and choose a wash program. When you press start the door will lock automatically. Water is pumped through the hose from the soap dish to the drum. The water level rises and so does the air pressure in the drum. When the pressure is high enough the pressure switch shuts off the water supply. The drum begins to spin and mixes the water and detergent with your laundry. Meanwhile, the water is brought to the set temperature. When the laundry is clean, the water is drained off, after which clean, cold water flows into the drum to rinse the detergent residues from the laundry. Once this is done, this water is also drained and the washing machine starts to spin; the drum spins very fast, pushing the excess water out of the laundry.

How long does a washing machine program take

On average, a wash program takes about 2.5 hours. This of course depends on your washing machine and the selected wash cycle. In general, condenser dryers and air-flow dryers wash faster than a heat pump dryer. This is because they heat using a heating element. This works quickly, but it also consumes a lot of energy. Also, most modern washing machines have a variety of washing programs that can also vary in duration. Often they have an eco-program, which usually takes longer, but also a short wash program, which allows you to finish faster. Nowadays, some washing machines even have programs that allow you to clean half a wash within an hour.

What is a front loading washing machine

The front loading washing machine is the most popular washing machine model out there. These have the door on the front of the drum. The alternative is the top-loading washing machine, which has the door on the top of the drum. With top loaders, you don’t have to bend down as much to load and unload your laundry, but with front loaders, you have the advantage of being able to stack your dryer on top of your washer, for example. Because the front loader is bought much more, there are also many more of them made. With front loaders, you therefore have more options in, among others, the amount of fill weight, the different wash programs, the energy label and the price range. Top-loaders are a lot less popular, so you only have the choice of a few models – which are often largely similar.

Why use a pull switch for a washing machine

A pull switch is a switch that you operate with a cord. By pulling the cord, you easily flip the switch. By means of a red ramp, you can see whether it is on or off. The purpose of a pull switch is to prevent the group to which your washing machine is connected from becoming overloaded. Pull switches are not mandatory, but are generally recommended when the group value of the washing machine is not on a 30 milliAmpere earth fault, or the connection of the washing machine is in the bathroom. In this case, a pull switch is extra safe because the electrical connection is waterproof, and thus protected from the moisture in your bathroom.

In what compartment should the soda be placed in a washing machine

Soda, like vinegar, is a natural remedy for removing soap scum, bad odors and lime from your washing machine in a non-harmful way. But where do you add the soda? You can add the soda directly to the drum of your washing machine, or put it in the detergent drawer. If you add the soda to the detergent drawer, that part of your washing machine will also be cleaned and descaled immediately. A cup (or a big handful) of soda is basically enough for this. Then you can start a normal wash program at 60 degrees or warmer. 90 degrees is recommended. It is best to clean your washing machine in this way once a month.
