Which fill weight should I choose?

Which fill weight is right for you depends on two factors: the number of family members (users) and the number of washes per week. The number of family members is important and, based on this, there are recommendations regarding the number of kilograms. For example, a family of 3 should be able to use 7 kilograms, while a family of 4-5 should use 8-9 kilograms. Large families with more than 5 people will find that a 10-12 kg washing machine is more convenient. In practice, a washing machine with a fill weight of 8-9 kilograms is the most common choice and appears to be a good size for the average family. A washing machine that is too big is not recommended because it uses too much water and energy per wash, which is unnecessary. A half-full drum on some washing machines will use as much energy and water as a full load.

Washing machines with a load sensor can adapt their program to the amount of laundry, which can be more economical. If you are alone or with 2 people, then a smaller washing machine is sufficient for your laundry and it is unnecessary to buy a bigger, and often more expensive washing machine. If the washing machine is bigger than recommended, try to save the laundry and wash it less often. This is beneficial for the life of the washing machine, as it is based on the number of washes per year. It is always advisable to fill the washing drum to a maximum of 90 per cent and to leave a 10% surplus. This is the only way to get enough water out of the wash during the spin cycle and avoid getting the laundry out of the machine too wet.
