This is because you build it into a free niche in your kitchen, utility room or any other space. Because you place the washing machine in a niche, it is always a front-loading machine. Buying a built-in washing machine: what to look for?

A built-in washing machine is generally an everyday purchase. Usually, a washing machine lasts for about 10 years. There is a lot of development in these appliances, so you will need to educate yourself every time. Built-in washing machines are appliances with all different features, functions and possibilities. The following are some of the things to look out for when buying a built-in washing machine.

  • Dimensions: If you are buying a built-in washing machine, you probably already have a place in mind for it. Measure the height, depth and width of your niche carefully before deciding on a specific washing machine to make sure it fits.
  • Fill Weight: The fill weight indicates how much laundry you can put in the drum, also known as the capacity of the washing machine. This is usually between 6 and 10 kg, but it can also be more. Washing machines with a 6 to 7kg fill weight are suitable for a small household, with one or two people. For a household with one or two children, you’ll need a 8kg load sooner rather than later. Most washing machines therefore have a capacity of 8 kg. Do you have a family with 3 children or more? Then you should look for a machine with 9 kg or more.
  • Energy Class:The energy class of a washing machine tells you how energy efficient it is. This runs from energy class A to G, with energy class A using the least energy. Washing machines with a better energy class are usually more expensive to buy, but in use they can actually save you money because they use much less energy. They are also a better choice for the environment, of course.
  • Split noise level: Washing machines can be quite noisy, especially during the spin cycle. If you are planning to place your built-in washing machine in a room that is somewhat noisy, you may want to look at a relatively quieter washing machine. There are four different noise levels: extra quiet (71 dB or quieter), quiet (72 – 73 dB), normal (74 – 77 dB) and loud (78 dB or louder). The average washing machine with steam function has a noise level of 75 dB.
  • RPM: The RPM indicates how many rounds the drum makes during the spin. The faster it spins, the drier your laundry will be. For new washing machines, the rpm is between 1100 and 1600 rpm. Most built-in washing machines spin at 1400 rpm.
  • Wash programs: Every built-in washing machine has different programs. It is therefore a good idea to take stock of what washing programmes you use, or intend to use, in advance. Standard programs include gentle laundry, hand wash, cotton, short wash, refresh, synthetic and wool. But there are also specific programs for sportswear, baby clothes, stains, jeans or for less energy and water use.
  • Quality: Built-in washing machines are rated by their manufacturer on wash quality and build quality. The wash quality indicates how good the results are after washing. Build quality says something about the materials used to make the appliance and the lifespan of the washing machine. Both are divided into basic, mid-range and top-range. However, not every manufacturer is equally transparent about these reviews. If it is not mentioned on the built-in washing machine that you have in mind, you can also look at the brand and price of the device. Of course, expensive is not necessarily better, but it can be an indication that the washing machine is built with quality materials. In general, A brands such as AEG, Bosch and Siemens also deliver better results.
